Fantastic Performance

Congratulations on your wonderful performances on Monday. We understand that concert is very early in the season but it seems to launch people into the holiday spirit. Students that helped out on Sunday evening were great and a huge boost in getting things ready. I am very proud of those who stepped forward to assist afterwards and help load the truck and unload it afterwards.

Here are some things to remember the next few days.

  • Pies orders are coming in on Monday right after 3rd hour exam. Make sure to make time to come down to the band room to pick up your orders and deliver them to your customers.
  • Some Tri-M students said that they would be able to help out after school on Monday> See Mr. Reikow for details.
  • Solo and ensemble registration is coming up fast. Forms have been passed out and students should be making choice to play in January. Students must have those forms handed in with checks made out to Holland Public schools by Monday.

First Day for Orchestra and Jazz Ensembles

The first day of symphony orchestra will be on Friday September 10. We will discuss the Mackinac trip and the schedule for rehearsals.  All students enrolled for symphony orchestra are to bring their instruments and be prepared to play. Seating for the ensemble will be posted by Thursday on the bulletin board in the hall. Have pencil ready!

All other ensembles will begin playing on Thursday.  During this first week you will be getting your lockers and music folders.  It is recommended that you practice every day so make arrangements to get your instrument home after school.  If you have particular instrument needs make sure you talk to Mr. Reikow right away.

Mackinac Island, Here We Come!

September 25-27

Once again the Holland High School Symphony Orchestra will be traveling to Mackinac Island to practice and perform. this year we are changing things up a bit by adding a performance at the Mackinac Island School on Monday. We are also collaborating on at least one other performance venue besides the Mission Point Theater on the the island that we will announce when it is confirmed.

In addition to the added performances we are looking forward to introducing the 1st annual HHS Tournament of Musicians which will include all symphony members in certain challenges of activities organized to put the most competitive groups to the test of intelligence and creativity. You thought capture the flag was fun last year…. just you wait!

Don’t forget to sign up for this trip by sending in your application and $25 registration fee right away.
